A WOMAN from Kuwadzana suburb in Harare has won respite from her daughter’s boyfriend, who was using her bedroom for his sexual escapades in her absence.
Mary Muzengi took Brighton Ketero to court after he became violent during their heated confrontation over the use of her bedroom.
Muzengi had instructed Ketero not to enter or use her bedroom, an instruction she claims the latter disregarded.
“I caught the young man in action with my daughter in my bedroom. I reprimanded them, but whenever I came back from work, I found them there,” she said.
“The worst part is that he stole my keys, and he had the guts to bring other girlfriends into my bedroom in the absence of my daughter.”
Muzengi said she feels disrespected in her own home and was also fearing for her life since Ketero was threatening her.
She claimed that Ketero once jumped over the gate, broke her bedroom door, and used it as a base for his friends.
Muzengi said she is no longer in good books with her daughter due to Ketero’s actions. She accused Ketero of assaulting her when she tried to talk to her daughter.
“I don’t know what this man wants from me because there are many bedrooms in my house, but he prefers to use my room,” said Muzengi.
She revealed that even when she reported the matter, Ketero continued to harass and threaten her.
Ketero denied being violent towards Muzengi, insisting that he never laid a hand on anyone nor behaved in a threatening manner.
“I have never been violent, she is fabricating lies only to make me leave her daughter,” he said.
However, he did admit that he had been using the woman’s bedroom.
He claimed that it was never about control or disrespect, but about seeking rest in a familiar space.
“Yes, I have used her bedroom, and I don’t deny that, it is more comfortable than the other room,” he said.
“Above all, I won’t leave her daughter because I love her, and I will stay close to her no matter what.”
Presiding magistrate Ms Johanna Mukwesha granted the protection order in the applicant’s favour.
