COMEDIAN Admire “Mama Vee” Mushambi finds himself in hot water following revelations that he allegedly stole and uploaded fellow comedian Wilson “MaVery-Very” Masakadze’s content without consent.

The damning accusations arise from claims that Mama Vee appropriated the concept of MaVery-Very’s popular skit, “Kana Muchishanya,” and reposted it on his social media platforms under the title “Dambudziko hatubudi mumusoro.”

MaVery-Very has labelled Mama Vee a cross-dresser as lazy and a bully for using other people’s work without their approval.

MaVery-Very’s skit, which gained traction on TikTok in 2023, was performed as an acapella song by himself.

In contrast, Mama Vee’s “Dambudziko hatubudi mumusoro” is also an acapella piece performed by a group of five.

Mama Vee posted his skit on July 1, raising questions about the rightful ownership of the concept.

While the primary difference lies in their performance styles, the core concept remains strikingly similar, leading to growing concerns about originality within the comedic landscape.

Mama Vee has shared the skit on both Facebook and YouTube, further complicating the situation and raising questions about intellectual property rights in the entertainment industry.

Speaking from his base in Mutare, MaVery-Very has demanded an apology from Mama Vee’s camp.

“I called to express my dismay at Mama Vee, who copied my skit and uploaded it on his Facebook page.

“I was unaware until my fans started contacting me to ask if I knew about this development. I am disappointed that someone of Mama Vee’s profile would behave this way toward me,” MaVery-Very said.

“Copycats should be held accountable for not valuing others’ creations, especially when money is involved.

“I have nothing against him, but if he can’t respect other content creators, we face serious issues. This nonsense must be stopped for the sake of the industry.”

MaVery-Very asserts that he is the original creator of the skit, which he performed at churches and burials last year.

“If anyone claims to have created it, I challenge them to come forward. The skit gained popularity on TikTok, where I posted it on July 7, 2023.

“It’s quite shocking that Mama Vee has claimed it as his own this week. I performed it during the burial of Bishop David Masuka last year and at other churches in Highfield,” he continued.

Now, MaVery-Very is demanding an explanation from Mama Vee, whose camp has remained defiant, asserting that it is their creation.

When contacted for a comment, Mama Vee promised to silence MaVery-Very with “unspecified” action.

“I don’t want to hear that nonsense. I will deal with that Mutare guy. I don’t know him or what he hopes to achieve. If he wants to make a name for himself, he should work hard and create better content,” Mama Vee replied evasively.

He likened the controversy to folklore songs.

“This whole thing is akin to popular songs like ‘Dhe Nhanha Dhe,’ which do not have original creators. Your guy must grow up, work hard, and stop trying to use others; otherwise, I will deal with him.”

When asked about his next move after Mama Vee’s threats, MaVery-Very expressed concern.

“That guy is very stubborn, and I don’t understand what he means by that. I am fearful because I don’t know his next move. Beyond using my content, he has the audacity to threaten me,” he said.

“Again, I have nothing against him, but we are dealing with someone who bullies others and appropriates their content. We cannot allow this in comedy; we are all content creators trying to earn a living from our hard work.”

Born in Bikita, Masvingo, MaVery-Very has emerged as one of the comedians gaining recognition through social media skits.

Recently, he was gifted a Toyota Aqua by Sir Wicknell Chivayo for his efforts.

His creations have consistently trended on Facebook and TikTok.

The father of four made a breakthrough in 2021 with several popular skits, including “Muchinyanya Kuda Maporofita,” “Mamboonawo Mombe Yangu here,” “Siyayi Zvakadaro Ndezvevaviri,” and “Kudzikisirwa Nebabe.”

Before his rise to fame, he worked in Arcturus and even tried his hand at mining.

Currently, the Mutare-based marketer and content creator conducts marketing for various companies through roadshows.

He also engages in peasant farming, regularly visiting his rural home during the planting season.

MaVery-Very is a creative striving for recognition while making a living as a content creator.
